Golf Liverpool Supports Group 133 Charity

On Friday 5th July, 2024, Golf Liverpool were once again proud to offer our support to this Golf Charity Day for a very worthwhile cause.

We have now been playing in this event for 5 years and Clare O’Brien from Group 133 can explain what this Charity provides to a number of underprivileged children in the Merseyside area.

“Merseyside Group 133 is part of HCPT - Hosanna House and Pilgrimage Trust which takes disabled and disadvantaged children to Lourdes at Easter-time. Some of these children come from abject poverty and have never been on a holiday before. Others have had a difficult beginning to life, such that we use the week in Lourdes as a time for them to heal and feel like a child again, as part of a 'family' group. All donations and profit from our fundraising events go directly to paying the fares for children to go from Liverpool to Lourdes. We raise the funds as a local, Merseyside group as the cost is £1,000 per child and we try to take 10 children each year.

The charity fundraising centres around 3 key events - a Golf Day, Black Tie Ball and sponsored Santa Dash run. We held our annual Golf Day on Friday 5th July with a record number of 26 teams and 100 people teeing off at West Derby Golf Club in the sunshine. The day consisted of a group and individual golf competition, raffle and silent auction. This year's group competition was won by the team from Golf Liverpool, under Stewart Jamieson's direction, with the winner of the individual competition, Alan Worthington, also part of this team. Golf Liverpool have provided long-standing support to the charity and we would like to wish many congratulations to Stewart and team for winning!

We are delighted to say that we raised over £6,000 which is more than we have ever raised on the Golf Day! This amount of money goes towards paying the fares of children going to Lourdes, buying treats such as ice cream and hot chocolate, and taking the children on excursions for example to a mountainous area called Gavarnie which is close to Lourdes, as a day-trip”.

Obviously, our Team were delighted to win on the day. We have been close, but no cigar in previous years. We did take the opportunity to celebrate afterwards with the other teams in the Competition. However, every team that support this event, agree that the big winners on the day are the children who benefit from any funds that are raised.
Well done Group 133

Client Testimonial

Stewart from Golf Liverpool organised 3 wonderful golf days for us with rounds at Royal Liverpool, Royal Lytham St Annes and finally Wallasey. Even reserved a table for us in the Sports Cafe to watch the Dutch national team during the European Championship. Transport, hotel everything was good. If you want it well arranged, book with Stewart.

I’d like to thank you for organising our trip - it’s been absolutely fantastic, 2 great courses in superb condition with a Hotel to match. It's been a smoothly run, very enjoyable trip and we are already looking forward to next year's trip. Thinking of Birkdale and Hillside possibly with a 2 night stay.
